California License #117920
ABOUT ELIZABETH
I came to Southern California from the east coast to work in production in the entertainment industry. After a few years, I went back to school and got licensed as registered nurse, working for eleven amazing years at UCLA's Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital as a staff nurse on medical/psych unit. I retain my license and certification as a registered nurse but found that I love the one on one work of therapy. I am now licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, drawing upon my experience as a psychiatric nurse. I am using telehealth as the platform for my sessions.

I also love to write and co-authored a book (Safe Kids, Smart Parents published by Simon and Schuster), three published research articles, most recently for the peer reviewed Juvenile and Family Court Journal (upcoming) and for the AFCC Family Court Journal (April 2020). I sometimes work with Transitioning Families in Sonoma, CA, as part of a team providing intensive care for families and individuals experiencing trauma including high conflict divorce, abduction and abuse. This program utilizes horses as part of the treatment team as well as other experiential therapies as part of their care.

MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
Grief, anxiety, worry, hyper-vigilance can be tough to handle and can exacerbate symptoms of chronic mental and medical illness. I can help with managing and coping with responses to your current situation and recovery, as well as communication issues within relationships. I see therapy for what it can be: sometimes transforming, problem solving, validating, encouraging and often healing.
I have a solid grounding in psychiatric care including medications from years of experience in psychiatric and medical care at UCLA's Resnick neuropsych hospital, which helps inform and manage some of my work as a therapist. I am very comfortable with therapeutic communication as an LMFT, and I love this work!

I believe that therapy can be effective across the board, for all kinds of life transitions, adjustments, for chronic medical and mental illness and for unresolved issues encountered in life be they long term or acute.

Looking for a Therapist?
Are you looking for a therapist? A good working relationship is an essential component of successful therapy. Therapy can be a shorter solution based process, or a longer exploration through psychodynamic, client centered existential or other mode, or a combination. This all depends on what you are looking for. Sometimes the first step is the hardest. Please feel free to call so I can answer any questions, or schedule an appointment to speak online.
